Note From Vatican

“Democracy and autonomy (decentralization) in Indonesia has allowed us to focus on local problems that we face. With 1.2 million population and a long history of poverty, Bojonegoro, a Regency in Republic of Indonesia must complete challenges: poverty alleviation; forest and environment rehabilitation; human resources quality improvement; and social capital improvement. For those reasons we need to ensure that the good governance and the transformative leadership play effective roles in resolving those challenges. I am grateful to have opportunity in this forum: “People, Prosperity and Planet in Cities: A Special Symposium of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network”, to share experiences, to gain network, and to share ideas from the best practices of development around the world. I believe this event would be very useful both for the sustainable development practice in Bojonegoro and in the world. Where there is will there is a way! izaa shodaqol ‘azmu wadhohassabiil. God bless you all! (Suyoto, mayor/regent of Bojonegoro Regency, Republic of Indonesia)”
